Some adverts are more subtle… well no they’re not – this advert has a pretty air hostess standing next to a big tower…


So is the message they are trying to communicate “fly with Glengarry as our air hostesses like big “towers” “?

All advertisers are guilty of using some form of subliminal suggestion, it is a powerful tool, and leaves a stronger impression on our minds, it may even be the one advert to sink in amongst the 100s we are exposed to every day.

Here is a still shot from the lion king. The stars change shape, and during their transition they spell out the word “Sex”.

It would be a massive coincidence for the starts to align to spell sex randomly. Some people state that it is just the animators having a laugh, but others say that these subliminal suggestions can link in your mind subconsciously to sex – they can make the film much more memorable, and appeal to adults as well as children…

We obviously strongly believe in the power of subliminal messaging, but we don’t work for Disney so we still cant say for sure either way – you decide:


This is not the only instance of subliminal messages within Disney movies, or indeed the Lion King, and we will show you more in the future!

Here is a new product launch from Skittles (a division of Mars inc.), their new Sour Berry flavour skittles.

This is the Spanish release of the sour berry flavours, and its blatently obvious they have tried to spell the word SEX by putting a skittle with an S on it next to the word explosion: SEXplosion:

Again it just shows the power of sex within advertising – any link to sex, even within childrens sweets in a subliminal / suggestive way like this will help the product stick in your mind.

Sex is powerful, and so are subliminal messages, and they also work quite well together 🙂

Take our Right vs Left Brain test below – Which way do you see the woman spinning – clockwise or anti-clockwise?

If you see her spinning clockwise, you use the right side of your brain more.
